DESCRIPTION:Speakers: MARCO GENOVESE (inrim)\nWe present quantum reading [
3] realisation\, describing theoretically and experimentally\, as that qua
ntum advantage is obtained by practical photon-counting measurements combi
ned with a simple maximum-likelihood decision [4]\, demonstrating that qua
ntum entanglement and simple optics are able to enhance the readout of dig
ital data.\nThen we consider [5] a protocol on conformance test. We formu
late the problem in the context of quantum hypothesis demonstrating that q
uantum resources\, namely twin beams [1\,2]\, and a simple receive are abl
e to outperform any classical strategy in recognizing whether or not a cer
tain quantum channel conforms to a reference one.\n[1] M.Genovese\,J.Opt.1

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Natalia Bruno (Istituto Nazionale di Ottica (CNR-INO
 )\, Largo Enrico Fermi 6\, 50125 Florence\, Italy & European Laboratory fo
 r Non-linear Spectroscopy (LENS)\, Via nello Carrara 1\, 50019 Sesto Fiore
ntino\, Florence\, Italy)\nQuantum Cascade Laser (QCL) frequency combs cou
ld emit nonclassical light and multimode entanglement thanks to a third or
der nonlinearity that allows for Four Wave Mixing in the device (Faist 201
6)\, which makes them ideal candidates for free-space communication applic
ations.\nHowever\, in the mid-infrared\, the lack of efficient and low-noi
se detectors compromises enormously the ability to investigate non classic
al features of light. In addition\, the laser gain of the device itself ca
n introduce noise due to the amplification. Having a signature of non clas
sical light\, such as squeezing\, is a challenging task in these condition
 s. We demonstrate the possibility of investigating continuous-variable qua
ntum physics in the mid-infrared through a novel Balanced Homodyne Detecto
 r (Gabbrielli 2021)\, tested with QCLs.\n\nhttps://indico.unina.it/event/5

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Francesco Plastina (Dip. Fisica UNICAL - INFN Gruppo
Collegato di Cosenza)\nA classical-quantum hybrid approach to computation
is presented\, allogwing for a (quadratic) performance improvement in the
learning stage of a neural network. In particular\, a quantum computing r
outine is described\, which helps to prepare/update the probability distri
butions that drive the agent operations. This algorithm can be used not on
ly in a reinforcement learning scenario\, but also in several other contex
ts. After intrudicing the algorithm and presenting a formal evaluation of
its performance (in terms of required qubits\, number of required operatio
ns\, and maximum approximation error)\, the way it can be exploited in a r
einforcement learning set-up is discussed in details.\n\nhttps://indico.un

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Salvatore Tirone (Scuola Normale Superiore)\nWe stud
y the possibility of conveying useful energy (work) along a transmission
line that allows for a partial preservation of quantum coherence. As a fig
ure of merit we adopt the maximum values that ergotropy\, total ergotrop
y\, and non-equilibrium free-energy attain at the output of the line for a
n assigned input energy threshold. When the system can be modelled in term
s of Phase-Invariant Bosonic Gaussian Channels (BGCs)\, we show that coher
ent inputs are optimal. For generic BGCs which are not Phase-Invariant the
problem becomes more complex and coherent inputs are no longer optimal. I
n this case\, focusing on one-mode channels\, we solve the optimization pr
oblem under the extra restriction of Gaussian input signals.\n\nhttps://in

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Giuliano Benenti (Dip. Scienze Alta Tecnologia\, Uni
 v. Insubria\, Como\, Italy)\nA key question for the development of quantum
thermos-machines and more generally of quantum technologies is what are t
he ultimate bounds to the performance of heat engines. We have shown [1] t
hat in the antiadiabatic limit a periodically driven isothermal heat engin
e can approach the ideal (unit) energy conversion efficiency with finite o
utput power and vanishingly small relative power fluctuations. The simulta
neous realization of all three desiderata of a heat engine is possible tha
nks to the breaking of time-reversal symmetry. Moreover\, non-Markovian dy
namics\, obtained by suitably engineering the bath\, can further improve t
 he power-efficiency trade-off.\n\n[1] L. M. Cangemi\, M. Carrega\, A. De C
